School Curriculum

  • The Curriculum

    • Nivedita Vidyamandir offers an engaging curriculum. A stimulating and supportive learning environment enables students to foster a passion for learning and curiosity that helps them develop high aspirations and a lifetime of precious memories.

    • The school has a team of dedicated teachers who are committed to imparting quality education leading to character-building education. This is further embedded through our successful relationships with parents. We firmly believe that education is a partnership between parents and the school. Therefore, parents are required to play an active role in their child’s education in collaboration with the school.

    • The school curriculum is a structure of learning experiences, presented to each child as a balanced program, which closely matches each child’s stage of development.
    Pre-primary Level....play and learn

At the Pre-primary level, teachers lay a lot of emphasis on the Play-way method. Games are a natural means of teaching little ones and are an integral part of every classroom. Teachers use flashcards to teach letters. Chalk and board are extensively used for reinforcing learning. Songs and rhymes are used to develop vocabulary. The phonetic sounds of the letters of English and Hindi alphabets are taught for better word building. The teachers extensively use picture reading to help the students grasp new concepts.

The faculty is well-equipped to teach Mathematics through alternative methods. Beads, dice, and pocket boards are some of the devices used to enhance the teaching environment in the class. Environmental study is introduced at this level through story-telling, conversation, and craft. Jingles, number songs, and symbols are used to improve the concentration of the child. The faculty aims at integrated learning of English, Hindi, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies. Music is also treated as a method of exploring and learning acceptable behavioral patterns.

Primary Level (Classes I to V) Interactive Methods of Learning
    • In our Primary School (classes I to 5) the faculty emphasizes a lot on conversational skills, reading, writing, and mental Mathematics. The creativity of students is developed and nurtured through various extra-curricular activities like fancy dress, singing, dance, arts and crafts, poetry, and sports.
    • Regular usage of worksheets in all subjects encourages the students to grasp the topics better, further ensuring adequate practice. Teamwork is inculcated through games and projects. Students are encouraged to do projects in the classroom under the teacher’s supervision, which helps them to learn concepts related to the lessons.
    • The students are groomed to sharpen their reading and listening skills for better learning of languages. Regular practice of listening and comprehension helps them to practice their recall and absorption skills.
    • Innovative methodology of teaching Mathematics is regularly explored by our team of dedicated teachers. Value Education is a very important part of our curriculum. The value-added lessons are taught through songs, drama, drawing, and poetry. The class teachers encourage the students to talk about their real-life experiences in the context of the chapters being taught.
    • The main objective of education is to improve communication skills with fluency in speaking, reading, and writing both in English and Hindi, general awareness of surroundings, and developing thinking skills and values.
    • Children study English, Hindi, Maths, Science, Environmental Science, Physical Education, Computer Science, Music, and Art. Our curriculum has been carefully planned to meet the holistic needs of the children. The medium of instruction is English. Hindi is a compulsory language in all classes; Sanskrit is introduced in Class V. Computer education is introduced in Class I. The school syllabus is reviewed periodically to ensure it is purposeful, exciting, and engaging for the children.
  • English

The Curriculum for English is divided into three areas:

    • Speaking and listening
    • Reading
    • Writing

  • Speaking and listening skills are developed through a variety of activities such as drama, stories, and role-play.
Writing is taught systematically throughout the school session, beginning with mark making activities and letter formation and then sentence structure, grammar and punctuation. Children write for a real purpose which includes stories, poetry and factual information.
Regular reading activities are encouraged to cultivate love for reading in children.

  • We cover all aspects of Mathematics. We give special emphasis to those aspects of Mathematics which help children to become fully efficient with numbers. Children are taught to use and apply basic skills in the following areas of Maths:

  • Mathematics

    • Mathematics Problem solving based on the four operations i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
    • Numbers
    • Shape, space and measurement .

  • Environmental Science

Science is embedded within the curriculum plan throughout the school. Children are given opportunities to explore and find out how things work. They learn to conduct simple experiments which enable them to develop observation and critical thinking skills.

    Additional Support for Weaker Students

During a child’s time in NVM, he or she may experience difficulties with his/her learning which could be solved by providing a little extra support. If your child needs this further support, you will be contacted and, with your permission, your child will be placed on the Special Needs Register. You will be fully involved in the process, and we will ask for your permission if we need to ask another professional for help and advice.
